Permissions

What Telmi asks your Mac for, why, and how to fix it when one is off.

Telmi asks for as little as it can. Two permissions are needed to hear a call. The rest are optional.

Microphone (needed)

Your side of the call. Your voice shows up as You in the transcript. macOS asks the first time you start listening.

No "You" lines? Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone, and turn Telmi on.

System audio recording (needed)

Their side of the call. Telmi listens to your Mac's audio output, which is why it works with any call app. Their voices show up as Them.

No "Them" lines? Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Screen & System Audio Recording, and allow Telmi. The panel also tells you when it hears nothing from the other side for 20 seconds.

Calendar (optional)

Lets Telmi name each call, list who was on it, and show your next meeting. Only needed if you use macOS Calendar. See Calendar.

If you denied it, turn Telmi back on in Privacy & Security, then Calendars.

Screen recording (optional)

Only for the "look at my screen" action (⌃⌥Space), which reads what's on screen, like a question, a slide, or code, and tells you what to say. macOS asks the first time you use it. Without it, everything else works.

Common problems

  • Your words show up as Them too. You're on speakers, so the mic hears the call. Telmi removes most of that echo, but headphones remove all of it.
  • It didn't start by itself. Check that Start listening when a call starts is on in Settings. You can always press ⌘⇧L.
